The Express business generated ₹997 crore revenue, up 87.3% YoY and 7.9% QoQ. Express orders nearly doubled to 19.8 crore, rising 94.9% YoY. The company said growth was supported by market-share gains among D2C brands, faster-delivery demand and higher volumes in value categories.

Hyperlocal Business Adds Another Growth Engine

Hyperlocal revenue stood at ₹272 crore, growing 53% YoY and 17% QoQ. Orders increased 47.4% YoY to 4.9 crore. Shadowfax attributed the sequential improvement to newer quick-commerce entrants, lower-value models in food delivery and a pickup in volumes.

Operating Leverage Starts Showing in Margins

The key change in Q1 FY27 was the improvement in profitability. Adjusted EBITDA rose 181% YoY to ₹67 crore, while the margin expanded to 4.9% from 2.9% in Q1 FY26. The company described this as sustainable margin expansion driven by operating leverage.

Sharp Improvement in Bottom Line

PAT increased to ₹65 crore from ₹8 crore in the year-ago quarter, representing a 713% YoY increase. PAT margin also improved to 4.8% from 1.0%, or around 380 bps higher YoY. Sequentially, PAT increased 17.1% from ₹56 crore in Q4 FY26.

Network Expansion Supports Scale

Shadowfax continued expanding its operating network, with 16,372 pin codes, 5,095 touchpoints and 2.9 lakh average quarterly unique transacting delivery partners in Q1 FY27. The company added 716 pin codes during the quarter and is targeting full national pin-code coverage by FY28.

Quick Commerce and D2C Create New Opportunities

Quick commerce remains an important part of the company’s strategy. Shadowfax has expanded its dark-store network from 15 to 47 stores, while its Hyperlocal business has reached a ₹1,000+ crore annualised revenue run rate based on Q1 FY27. Its D2C revenue also grew 170%+ YoY, highlighting the increasing contribution from newer logistics segments.

Investments Ahead of Festive Demand

The company is also investing ahead of the festive season. Q1 FY27 capex stood at around ₹60 crore, with investments focused on network and automation, geographic expansion and technology. Operations space increased to 53 lakh sq. ft., from 47 lakh sq. ft. in March 2026.

AI Could Further Improve Efficiency

Shadowfax is deploying AI across its network, including an AI-powered rider support system and vision-based quality control for reverse logistics. The rider support system handles around 16,000 chats daily, with about 97% resolved without human intervention, while its AI quality-control system is designed to identify mismatches at the doorstep and reduce return-related losses.

Shadowfax is entering the next quarters with solid momentum in both its Express and Hyperlocal categories, owing to expanded network coverage as well as higher volumes of D2C and quick commerce deliveries. Operating leverage improvements have resulted in higher margin and bottom-line growths, while AI-based automation would help in achieving more efficiencies. Execution on investments in capacity and technology and geographical expansion would be important for maintaining business momentum and earnings growth.
