India’s push to carry out long-pending irrigation projects has increasingly relied on specialised engineering contractors rather than generalist infrastructure players, as work on canal networks, lift irrigation schemes and dam-linked distribution systems needs technical expertise not all construction companies have. Joint ventures built around this sort of niche capability have generated a steady stream of work with state governments as older projects that have been delayed finally move toward execution.

What’s the News?
Om Infra Limited (formerly Om Metals Infraprojects) has announced that its 50:50 joint venture MCC-Om has received a formal work order for Rs 32,17,72,860 from Vidarbha Irrigation Development Corporation, Nagpur of the office of Executive Engineer, Ghodazari Canal Division. Financial & Business Analysis
Looking at the quarterly results of Om Infra Ltd., the company’s consolidated revenue increased by 39.32 percent YoY, from Rs. 109.58 crore in Q1 FY26 to Rs. 127.51 crore in Q1 FY27, and increased by 5.04 percent QoQ from Rs. 165.30 crore in Q4 FY26.
In Q1 FY27 Om Infra Company Ltd.’s consolidated net profit reached Rs. 11.45 crore compared to Rs. (0.9) crore during the same period last year. As compared to Q1 FY27, the net profit has increased by 77.4 percent, from Rs. 6.45 crore. The basic earnings per share turned positive at Rs. 1.19 as against Rs. (-0.14) recorded in the same quarter of the previous year, FY2026.
Om Infra runs a fairly concentrated business model built around hydro-mechanical equipment, dam and gate construction, and irrigation EPC work, an area where it has positioned itself as one of the few Indian players with the technical depth to execute large dam and pumped-storage projects. Alongside this hydro and irrigation vertical, the company has built a meaningful presence in water-supply EPC work under schemes like the Jal Jeevan Mission, giving it a revenue mix that spans both long-gestation dam-linked contracts and shorter execution-cycle water distribution projects.
This latest order adds directly to that irrigation and dam-construction pipeline, reinforcing the company’s order book in a segment where it already has an established execution track record across states like Maharashtra, Rajasthan and Jammu & Kashmir. Winning repeat business from state irrigation corporations also strengthens Om Infra’s case for larger, more complex tenders down the line, since a clean execution history with agencies like VIDC tends to matter as much in future bid qualification as the contract value itself.
Industry Context
Irrigation capital expenditure in India has been steadily increasing and in FY26 is likely to increase at a CAGR of around 8 percent, on a high base, largely on the back of states mapping out the way to complete long-awaited major irrigation projects. It is important to note that out of the country’s total irrigation investment, 65 to 70 per cent is in seven states of which Maharashtra is one of the more dynamic spenders on canal and lift-irrigation systems.
The state-level push is stacked upon a larger push for water security, which is happening nationwide, including the government’s projection for irrigation water demand to rise significantly in the next decades, causing states to focus on efficiency projects within existing dams and canal systems as well as new water supply projects. That transition from developing to upgrading schemes, such as the decades-old Gosikhurd Project, generally works out to a fairly steady stream of contracts for specialised EPC contractors already in a state’s irrigation system.
