An online travel booking platform, EaseMyTrip has now moved into vehicle manufacturing, with its EV arm EMTev launching electric buses in Bhopal this week. The rollout is an early step toward a five-year plan to scale up annual production, drawing on operating lessons from the company’s existing intercity bus network. What it means for capital spending, delivery timelines, or the travel business’s own financials isn’t fully clear yet, but that’s likely to come into focus over the next few quarters.
Shares of Easy Trip Planners Ltd are trading at Rs. 5.87, up 0.07 percent on Friday. The stock touched the intraday high of Rs. 5.82 after opening at Rs. 5.82 before slipping to a low of Rs.5.75. The company commands a market capitalization of Rs. 2,338.99 crore.
EMTev Buses Hit the Road in Bhopal
Easy Green Mobility, an electric vehicle unit of EaseMyTrip which goes by the name EMTev, commenced operations of its first buses in Bhopal on September 25. EMTev is positioning this as a step in an overall Vision 2030 of manufacturing 5,000 electric buses a year by the early 2030s. Specifications of the first coach rolled out consist of a 12-metre long 45-seater vehicle with a 423.9 kWh LiFePO4 battery which it claims offers a range of 350 km. But what provides more credibility to the launch, apart from the press release, is that EMTev is not a new venture but one that builds on the operational experience of YoloBus, an intercity bus business EaseMyTrip has been running in the southern part of the country.
What Bhopal Signals About EaseMyTrip’s Direction
Travel companies don’t usually end up in the bus manufacturing business, so it’s worth asking why EaseMyTrip is doing this. Part of the answer is visible in its own numbers: hotel and holiday package bookings grew 95% year-on-year last quarter, well ahead of anything happening in flights, so the company’s been actively steering capital toward non-air segments for some time.
Spree Hotels, YoloBus, and now EMTev all fit that same pattern. Manufacturing is a much bigger commitment than acquiring a booking platform, though. EaseMyTrip has previously guided to around INR 200 crore in capex for R&D and plant infrastructure, and success here will hinge partly on things outside the company’s control how FAME and PLI incentives evolve, whether state-level EV procurement keeps up its pace.
There’s also a financial backdrop worth flagging. EaseMyTrip’s core business actually swung to a loss in the June quarter PBT came in at negative INR 114.1 million, versus a small profit of INR 20.3 million a year earlier even as gross booking revenue rose to INR 23.7 billion. Discounting and operating costs outpaced revenue growth. Against that, the EMTev push reads less like an opportunistic side bet and more like an attempt to build a second growth lever while the travel business works through margin pressure.
Whether that’s the right call is genuinely an open question; running a booking platform and scaling up bus manufacturing draw on completely different capabilities, and the market will likely want to see a few more quarters of execution before giving the company much credit for it.
Financial Performance
Looking at the quarterly results of Easy Trip Planners Limited, the company’s consolidated revenue from operations increased by 18.39 percent YOY, from Rs. 113.79 crore in Q1 FY26 to Rs. 134.70 crore in Q1 FY27, and declined by 11.32 percent QoQ from Rs. 151.90 crore in Q4 FY26.
In Q1 FY27, the company consolidated net profit decreased by 12 Crore, reaching negative of Rs. 11.6 crore compared to Rs. 0.4 crore during the same period last year. As compared to Q4 FY26, the net profit has increased by 24.15 percent, from Rs. 11.6 crore.
The basic earnings per share decreased by negative of 0.03 and stood at negative of Rs. 0.03 as against Rs. 0.00 recorded in the same quarter in the previous year, FY2026.
Where This Fits in the Bigger Picture
From a broader perspective, the timing of these events appears highly strategic. India’s electric bus market is forecast to grow at roughly 24% a year through 2030, with total demand over the decade estimated at somewhere between 125,000 and 150,000 units, a number EaseMyTrip has cited directly in its own investor materials. That growth is largely policy-driven: FAME subsidies and PLI incentives are pushing manufacturers toward domestic production, which is precisely the opportunity EMTev is chasing. Meanwhile the travel side of the business benefits from a separate but equally supportive backdrop India’s digital economy is on track to make up close to a fifth of GDP by 2030, and the middle-income population is projected to expand by well over 100 million households in that window.
Few companies end up straddling both an EV manufacturing cycle and a consumer internet growth story at the same time, and that dual exposure is arguably what makes EaseMyTrip an interesting name to watch from here, even if it also adds execution risk on two fronts instead of one.
