Abakkus Mutual Fund has entered the Specialised Investment Fund (SIF) segment with Fokkus, after receiving approval from the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) on August 28, 2026. The platform will present investment strategies, in equity, debt and hybrid format. Individual strategies will be rolled out once necessary regulatory filings and approvals have been made and received.

What Is Abakkus Fokkus SIF?

Fokkus is Abakkus Mutual Fund’s new SIF platform, through which it plans to offer specialised investment strategies across equity, debt and hybrid categories. The fund house said it intends to use the platform for differentiated strategies while applying its investment approach and risk-management framework. However, Fokkus is currently a platform and not a specific investment strategy available for subscription. Details such as investment objectives, asset allocation, costs and risk factors will be disclosed when the individual strategies are introduced.  Abakkus Mutual Fund had crossed ₹10,000 crore in assets under management in August 2026, less than a year after launching its first scheme in December 2025.

₹10 Lakh Minimum Investment Requirement

SIFs require investors to maintain a minimum investment of ₹10 lakh across the strategies of an SIF at the PAN level. Investments in regular mutual fund schemes of the same fund house are not included in this threshold, while accredited investors are exempt from the requirement. If the investment falls below ₹10 lakh due to a decline in NAV, it is treated as a passive breach. However, if a transaction by the investor causes the investment to fall below the threshold, the investor gets 30 calendar days to restore the required investment level.

How Is SIF Different From a Regular Mutual Fund?

Particulars Regular Mutual Fund SIF
Minimum investment Varies by scheme ₹10 lakh aggregate threshold
Investment approach Based on applicable mutual fund category Specialised strategies within SIF framework
Strategy flexibility Based on mutual fund categories Greater flexibility under SIF framework
Regulation SEBI SEBI
Investor threshold No SIF-specific ₹10 lakh threshold ₹10 lakh across SIF strategies at PAN level

The main distinction is therefore the combination of a higher investment threshold and greater flexibility in investment strategies. This also means investors need to understand the specific strategy and its associated risks before investing.

What Will Abakkus Offer Through Fokkus?

Abakkus plans to introduce specialised strategies across equity, debt and hybrid categories under Fokkus. However, the fund house has not yet disclosed the detailed investment objectives, asset allocation, costs or risk profile of these individual strategies. These details will be available in the respective strategy documents once the offerings are launched.

What Investors Should Check

Before investing in any Fokkus strategy, investors should review its investment objective, asset allocation, risk profile, costs and liquidity. They should also check whether the strategy uses derivatives or other specialised investment approaches, wherever applicable. The ₹10 lakh minimum investment requirement alone does not indicate the risk or suitability of a particular SIF strategy.
