The dredging sector comprises Rs. 240 crore worth of contracts, while the charter and hire segment is valued at Rs. 850 crore, comprising 15 contracts. It is the largest segment of the order book.

However, there are orders to the value of approximately Rs. 240 crore for the shipbuilding business through four different orders. Bid pipeline

Knowledge Marine & Engineering Works boasts a robust pipeline of future demands of over Rs. 3,500 crores across its core segments. It has a pipeline of dredging worth Rs. 1,200+ crores, whereas chartering and hiring contribute around Rs. 1,100+ crores to the pipeline.

Shipbuilding represents the largest part of their pipeline, which amounts to about Rs. 1,400+ crore. For the dredging business, the company expects that results of bidding worth Rs. 1,200 crore will be available in the coming 30–45 days.

Selective Bidding Strategy

The management still adopts a selective bidding strategy, considering factors such as technical sophistication, availability of assets, contract terms, risks involved, and projected profits. The organization has continued to pursue sustainable cash flows with an EBITDA margin of 35%–40%.

In the past 11 years, historically, the firm has always achieved more than 50% bid conversion. The management revealed its intention to keep up with this performance even though there are no assurances of future success.

Capex Plan

Knowledge Marine and Engineering Works intends to make capex of almost Rs. 1,000 crores in the next one-and-a-half-year period to increase the scale of its operations. Almost Rs. 450 crores will be used for adding dredging vessels, and Rs. 250 crores will be used for green tugs and vessels.

The rest of the capital expenditures would go to developing shipyards and shipbuilding operations. It is currently assessing larger TSHDs, CSDs, backhoe dredgers, and water injection dredgers, which may broaden its market potential for performing complicated and higher-value projects.

Future Outlook & Guidance

Knowledge Marine & Engineering Works has increased its projections for FY27 growth to above 60%, as against its previous projection of growth in the range of 30-40%. This has been attributed to the company’s order book and anticipated conversion of its tender pipeline.

Over the longer term, management is targeting Rs. 1,000 crore in revenue by FY29. At this scale, the company expects dredging to contribute 45–50%, shipbuilding 40–45%, and charter around 5% of the topline.

Margin Outlook

Knowledge Marine & Engineering Works aims to maintain a sustainable EBITDA margin of 35-40%, with management confident that the margin on dredging will rise as volume increases. It is anticipated that increased volume of dredging will help generate operating leverage and contribute to margin expansion.

In shipbuilding, management indicated that margins could be around 15–20% before subsidies. Once eligible subsidies are received following vessel deliveries, shipbuilding margins could exceed 35%, with the subsidy benefit varying by vessel type.
