The renewable energy sector in India is seeing growth as various states promote access to renewable energy as a mode of clean energy for agriculture and energy during the day. The solar parks that are being set up closer to the distribution stations also provide an added advantage by helping improve decentralization of power supply while decreasing the dependency on natural resources.

The share price of Ceigall India Limited has fallen by 0.75 % to Rs. 377.10, compared with the previous close of Rs.379.95. The stock opened at Rs.381.70 and traded between Rs. 381.70 and Rs.369.10 during the session. The company has a market capitalization of Rs.6,571.88 crore.

Solar Capacity Commissioned

Ceigall India has declared the commissioning of an additional 5 MW solar energy capacity at Ranjangaon Deshmukh, Maharashtra through its fully owned subsidiary, Ceigall Green Energy MH2 Limited. With this addition, the operational capacity of the subsidiary has increased to a total of 10 MW at this site.

The latest commissioning of the solar power facility has taken place after the commissioning of the first 5 MW unit. The company has stated that the completion of the first unit has been ahead of the schedule, thus entitling the project to an early-commissioning incentive under the MSKVY 2.0 program. The new 5 MW capacity addition has also been completed ahead of the original date.

The commissioned capacity is connected to the 33/11 kV Ranjangaon substation of Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited, with the generated electricity being sold to MSEDCL.

Part of Larger Renewable Project

The 10 MW operational capacity forms part of an aggregate 147 MW solar power project being developed and executed by Ceigall Green Energy MH2 under the Mukhyamantri Saur Krushi Vahini Yojana 2.0. The Maharashtra government scheme is aimed at strengthening decentralised daytime solar power supply to agricultural feeders across the state.

The company has earlier secured the Letter of Award relating to the implementation of 147 MW solar photovoltaic power schemes. This project involves several locations of Maharashtra and is, thus, in line with the company’s expansion into renewable energies.

Thus, the commissioning represents an advancement in the transformation of the received renewable capacities into operational capacities. The newly implemented project could gradually increase the company’s involvement in the solar energy generation sector, although the news does not include any information about revenues or profits derived from the newly implemented 10 MW project.

Renewable Energy Expansion

The development represents another step in the company’s strategy to diversify beyond roads and transportation infrastructure. Ceigall India has stated that it is expanding its renewable energy portfolio through utility-scale solar and Battery Energy Storage System projects.

The company’s earlier renewable projects have also provided a platform for entering longer-duration energy assets. Its 147 MW Maharashtra project is being developed under a government-backed programme focused on supplying daytime solar power to agricultural consumers.

The latest commissioning also highlights the company’s execution progress. Completing capacity ahead of schedule can help projects begin operations earlier, although the financial benefit depends on the applicable project terms, tariffs and incentives.

What comes Next

The next goal will be to bring the other segments of the 147 MW solar plant into operation on a phased basis. The company will likely pursue the expansion of its renewable energy initiatives as it continues with its existing projects.

The recent commencement of 10 MW gives an early glimpse into progress with regard to the larger project, but contributions to revenue and profit will depend on further roll-out of capacity and the sale of electricity.

With Ceigall progressing into both solar power and BESS, the diversification strategy becomes apparent as renewable energy is combined with the current EPC and infrastructure projects.
