Shares of a small-cap company engaged in designing and manufacturing advanced electronic and electromechanical systems for the aerospace, defence, and industrial sectors are in focus amid its growing presence across global markets and its strong portfolio of domestic and international clients. In this article, we look at the company’s global expansion and plans to enter the US market.

With a market capitalisation of Rs. 16,467.22 crore in the day’s trade, the shares of Sigma Advanced Systems Ltd jumped upto 3.7 percent, making a high of Rs. 887.40, compared to the previous close of Rs. 855.50.

Sigma At a Glance

Sigma Advanced Systems is an integrated global aerospace and defence player offering advanced products, subsystems and components, supported by a strong domestic manufacturing base. The company has an order book exceeding Rs. 8,000 crore, with more than 90 percent of the order book coming from international customers.

The company has secured long-term contracts of over seven years and operates as a development partner with strong R&D capabilities. It also has delegated approvals for work transfer to India, supporting its global manufacturing strategy. Sigma Advanced Systems has a dual manufacturing footprint across the UK and India, with more than 350,000 square feet of manufacturing space

Sigma Advanced Systems offers a diversified portfolio across defence, aerospace and naval applications. Its defence offerings include counter-drone solutions such as radars, spoofers and effectors, UAVs, missile guidance systems, avionics, naval systems, land-based combat vehicle assemblies, and ammunition components including artillery shell bodies and fuzes.

In aerospace, the company provides aero-engine class-I fabrications, sub-assemblies and components, along with critical aero-structures for wings, fuselage and empennage. It also supplies assemblies for global military aircraft, supporting its position across multiple high-value aerospace and defence platforms.

Marquee Clients

Sigma’s strength lies in its long-standing relationships with global aerospace and defence OEMs, built through collaborative design, development, qualification and manufacturing efforts that deeply embed its products into major aircraft platforms.

The global customer base spans propulsion and airframe majors such as Rolls-Royce, GE, Safran, Airbus and Boeing, alongside defence primes including Lockheed Martin, BAE Systems, RBSL, Rheinmetall and MBDA. Industrial and systems partners like Eaton, L3Harris, Magellan Aerospace, Siemens and Mitsubishi Heavy Industries further widen the addressable base across multiple end-markets and geographies.

On the domestic front, associations with Ordnance Factory facilities, HAL, Bharat Dynamics, the Indian Air Force, and Bharat Electronics are the factors that bind Sigma to the indigenisation drive of the country. The double exposure ensures that the firm gets balanced revenue from both its exports and sovereign defense budgets.

Current Revenue Split

At present, Sigma receives about 80-85 percent of its income from export markets, which is indicative of its being an established supplier of quality products in the global aerospace and defense industry. The company’s export-oriented nature indicates that Sigma is able to satisfy strict quality and delivery requirements imposed by prime contractors worldwide.

The other 15 to 20 percent comes from India, which might not sound like much currently, but it stands at a time when the domestic potential is booming fast. As the pressure of indigenisation increases, and the defence budget increases, with offsets becoming more and more important, the domestic share is set to grow substantially.

Sigma Advanced’s Global Growth & US Expansion

Sigma Advanced Systems has a growing international presence, supported by manufacturing facilities in India and the UK, with more than 350,000 square feet of manufacturing space and a workforce of over 800 employees. This setup enables the company to serve global OEM customers closer to their assembly facilities while retaining cost-effective engineering and manufacturing capabilities in India.

Its European presence, including the UK, Germany and France, connects Sigma with major aerospace and defence supply chains, while its markets in Japan, South Korea and Indonesia provide exposure to the growing Asia-Pacific aerospace and defence sectors. This diversified footprint helps the company access opportunities across multiple regions and reduces dependence on any single market.

The United States represents the company’s next major expansion opportunity, given the scale of its aerospace and defence market. Developing capabilities in the US could help Sigma build relationships with American primes, participate in defence procurement programmes and meet local-content requirements, potentially strengthening its global presence and creating a more strategic international business model.

Sigma has an order book of more than Rs. 8,000 crore, with around 90 percent coming from global clients. Long-term contracts extending beyond seven years, strong research and development capabilities, and the ability to transfer work to India further support its international operations and export-led business model.
