This Large-Cap Stock, engaged in manufacturing and selling motorcycles, scooters, electric two-wheelers, spare parts and related mobility products across domestic and international markets, crashed 6.78 percent in today’s intraday trade. In this article, we will explore the reasons for the stock’s fall.

With a market capitalization of Rs. 1,05,590.50 crores, the share of Hero MotoCorp Limited has reached an intraday low of Rs. 5,169 per equity share, down nearly 6.78 percent from its previous day’s close price of Rs. 5,545. Since then, the stock has retreated and is currently trading at Rs. 5,275.80 per equity share.

Reason Behind the Falls

Hero MotoCorp reported its August 2026 sales performance with mixed results. The company dispatched 5.68 lakh two-wheelers in August 2026, compared with 5.54 lakh units in August 2025, showing a small increase in overall sales. However, the growth was lower than what the market expected, which led to a fall in the company’s share price. The main reason for the fall was weaker-than-expected August sales, along with a decline in motorcycle sales and exports, which raised concerns about the company’s short-term growth.

Business Updates (August 2026)

Total dispatches increased: Hero MotoCorp dispatched 5,68,398 units in August 2026, compared with 5,53,727 units in August 2025. This means total dispatches increased by around 2.6 percent year-on-year. However, the growth was lower than the market expectation of about 7 percent.

Motorcycle sales were weak: Motorcycle dispatches fell to 4,93,851 units from 5,01,523 units last year, a decline of around 1.5 percent. This was the main reason for the slower overall volume growth.

Exports declined: Exports fell to 26,093 units from 34,588 units, a decline of about 25 percent. Weak exports were another negative factor in the overall numbers.

Scooter sales grew strongly: Scooter dispatches increased to 74,547 units from 52,204 units, showing a strong growth of around 43 percent. This indicates improving demand for Hero MotoCorp’s scooter products.

Domestic business performed well: Domestic dispatches increased to 5,42,305 units from 5,19,139 units last year. More importantly, domestic retail sales through VAHAN grew 19 percent, showing that actual customer demand remained strong despite the lower wholesale growth.

VIDA continued to grow: VIDA, Hero MotoCorp’s electric mobility business, dispatched 25,558 units in August and recorded 38 percent VAHAN retail growth. The company also launched the VIDA VX2 Go with a 3.1 kWh fixed battery, giving customers a more affordable electric scooter option.

EV capacity is expanding: Hero MotoCorp has increased monthly EV production capacity to nearly 30,000 units, up from 15,000 units at the end of FY26, and plans to reach 45,000 units per month by FY27-end.
